According to page 201 of my engine book, this engine is a 1972 911E-E with MFI. Looks correct to me!

The first, and most obvious one, is the serial number, which uniquely identifies each engine. It is on the 'third piece' of the case, or timing cover, below the generator stand (or on the generator stand if you have an early 2-piece engine case), You will also find an engine type identifier, which was Porsche's internal code to designate the. I just recieved two engine cases and parts for one engine. I haven't located the part with the serial number of the engine on it yet. The case numbers end with 3R the other 7R do these numbers indicate what type of engines these would be? The other numbers on the cases are 911/02, and 911/96. Most numbers in this range are used up to the point where the initial designation for the 911 was chosen: number 901, skipping a large part of the 800 range. At this stage the practice of allocating a separate number to each component design (e.g. Chassis, gearbox or engine) was abandoned and the numbers are used for entire projects.

5 = Model year 1975
xxxx = Sequential serial number usually starting with 0001. Exceptions: Starting with 9001 = engine for Sportomatic.
X = 1, 911, Type 911/41, (or Type 911/46 for Sportomatic)
X = 3, 911S, Type 911/42, (or Type 911/47 for Sportomatic)
X = 4, 911S/Carrera USA, Type 911/43, (or Type 911/48 for Sportomatic)
X = 5, 911S/Carrera California, Type 911/44, (or Type 911/49 for Sportomatic)
X = 6, Carrera 2.7 (MFI), Type 911/83
X = 7, Turbo 3.0, Type 930/50
